5 Ways to Wear Barrettes Like a Grown-Up
I’m pretty low-key when it comes to hair and hair accessories. For the last year or so, it’s been a low pony or loose curls. And that’s about it. However, when I recently found a pair of pearly acrylic barrettes at the Brooklyn Flea Market, it was all over for me. I fell in love with hair accessories, and I fell hard.
I decided to purchase a set of barrettes and clips to try out different styles with, and I found that Amazon had a set of 22 clips for just $13, I leaped. Here are five super easy ways you can rock the 2019 hair accessories trend.
Line them up
If you want to keep it simple, simply give your hair a deep part on one side, and line up your barrettes in a row along the shorter side. Whether you have a bob or long hair, this look works for almost anyone. (Except for pixies, sorry!)
Keep back those flyaways
This look uses the clips the way…whoever the inventor of hair clips is intended. I like to give my hair a slight curl and do a middle part. Then, pulling each side down flat, I slide in a barrette just a third of the way down my part. It’s so ‘90s, but hey.
Accent your pony
This one is for anyone who has hair long enough. Pull your strands into a low pony at the nape of your neck. Then, simply add a barrette on either side of your tail to give a little extra something to your look. I also like have a nice ponytail barrette to really complete the look (this one is from Madewell and is sold out, but you can find a similar one here).
Pulled back bangs
I actually don’t have bangs, but this look still works. All you have to do is gather the hair along your hairline, pull it straight back, and snap it in place on the crown of your head.
Stacked over a messy bun
Put your hair into a messy bun (I do mine using a hair tie like I’m going to do a ponytail, but only pulling the hair halfway through before wrapping the hair tie around my semi-ponytail again). Then, using two clips, I stack them on top of each other over my messy bun to accessorize. If you have any falling strands, you can also pin them in place with your barrettes.
