A DIY Glass Spice Rack That Turns Heads

When my husband and I redid our kitchen in our current apartment, it became apparent our mismatched spice jars were kind of an eyesore — and seeing as we live in New York City, there wasn’t enough cupboard or drawer space to stash away twenty odd plastic and glass bottles. Additionally, I didn’t have a good system that allowed me to keep track of which spices I already had, and so while cleaning out our spices, I realized we had three separate jars of parsley. Whoops.

Since moving into our new place, our new spice rack is actually one of the features that attracts the most comments. The funny thing is I kind of stumbled upon the solution by accident.

I already had an old three-tier cupcake stand from Crate and Barrel (they no longer have the same model, but you can find a similar one on Amazon for $25) that I used for jewelry storage of all things. And when we moved into our new place, I actually didn’t have a good spot for it, so it wound up in the kitchen.

Then, I found these World Market Round Glass Spice Jars ($6), which came in a set of six, which were incredibly affordable. I purchased four sets, and spent no more that $24 altogether. One thing you want to bear in mind when looking for spice jars is you’ll want something that’s airtight when sealed to preserve the longevity of your spices.

Lastly, I purchased the R.S.V.P. 96-Piece Spice Label Set ($4), which had nearly every kind of spice I owned and more. There are also blank labels for you to write in other spice names, which we did for just one — Adobo. And voilà, an affordable spice rack that’ll get you a lot of “Where is this from?”
