12 Carry-On Products to Make Plane Travel Less Miserable

There is a unique discomfort that comes with plane travel that can’t really be found in any other setting: the stale air that is depleted of moisture, the headache-inducing pressure, the cacophony of coughs, the seats that are never quite comfortable enough. But luckily, there are a world of products out there that will help ensure you have the smoothest possible flight. Check out some of my recs below.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Wipes ($10). If you’re going to be on a redeye flight, treat it like bedtime and don’t sleep in your makeup. Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O wipes are doused in their world-famous micellar water that is specially formulated for sensitive skin and removes even the most stubborn eye makeup like a dream.

CLÉ Lifting Mist ($21). At 30,000 feet, skin can get awfully thirsty, which is why this Lifting Mist by CLÉ is a must-have. Aside from being great at tightening and lifting tired skin, the mist also comes packed with Snow Mushroom, a powerfully hydrating ingredient.

Lucas Papaw Ointment ($8). If you’re going to treat thirsty skin, don’t forget about your lips. There’s a reason why Lucas Papaw Ointment has gained a cult-like following — it works! This multi-purpose balm from Australia contains papaya and can be used for minor burns, sunburn, cuts, slight wounds, and — of course — chapped lips.

Radius Tour Travel Toothbrush ($19 for pack of three). This nifty little toothbrush features a jackknife design, which allows it to fold up neatly into itself to keep the head clean when you’re not using it. The heads are even replaceable when the bristles get worn out, so you can have several happy travels with it.

Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm ($27). This luxurious hand cream will make you feel like you’re flying in first even if you’re not. Scented with mandarin rind, rosemary leaf, cedar atlas, this balm smells expensive, but also is super emollient. Plus, it dissolves quickly into your skin so there’s no greasy residue.

Peppermint Essential Oil ($10). Peppermint oil is great for not only banishing nausea, but can also help with aches and pains. While on longer flights, it’s a good idea to occasionally get up and stretch, peppermint oil can also ease soreness. Word of warning though, this stuff is strong. Just a drop goes a very long way.

Homemade Flyaway Tamer. Dry air also means frizzy hair, and this homemade solution can help make those pesky hairs lie flat. Plus, it’s made with all-natural ingredients and provides a flexible hold, so you don’t have to worry about nasty ingredients or stiff locks.

Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds ($249). These earbuds don’t play music, but instead, come pre-loaded with soothing acoustics to cover up the noisy sounds of a flight, so you can actually catch some Z’s. You can even set an alarm to wake you when you’re ready to rise and shine.

Muji Travel Neck Cushion ($18). This cushy neck pillow has a 100% cotton cover and is priced under $20. It even comes with its own mesh storage bag, which makes it easy to transport and also keeps your cushion clean from dust.

Kenzo Jumping Tiger Stole Scarf ($240). On flights, they often crank the air-conditioning way up, and so a must is a versatile scarf that doubles as a blanket. This Kenzo stole scarf is made with 100% wool and has an adorable tiger patch. It’s a great practical accessory both in air and on land.

S’well Traveler 16oz Water Bottle ($32). Staying hydrated on the plane is super important, so packing a reusable bottle is key. Fill it up before you board (just make sure it’s empty when you’re going through security!) and have access to H2O at all times.

Moonlit Skincare 'Let Me Sleep' Eye Mask ($19). Having a sleep mask means you can get shut-eye even when your seat mate won’t draw the window shade. This one by Moonlit Skincare is made with soft silk to prevent fine lines and creases on your face, and has an adjustable band for maximum comfort.
